What is Cutis Vertices Gyrata? Could FAT Hair Transplantation Be a Treatment Option?

    27/09/2022

It’s hard to spell and even harder to pronounce. Perhaps many of you are meeting for the first time. Cutis Vertices Gyrata takes place in the medical literature as a rare skin disease . This disease, abbreviated as CVG, often occurs spontaneously for no reason. In this article, Cutis Vertices Gyrata which does not give any symptoms and can only be visually noticed when the hair is short, vertices I want to talk about Gyrata disease.

    What is Cutis Vertices Gyrata?

Cutis vertices Gyrata refers to a medical condition characterized by hypertrophy and folding of the scalp . It is also described as folds on the scalp. This disease, which is visually likened to the folds of the brain, generally occurs after adolescence, between the ages of 20 and 30. Studies have shown that CVG disease is more common among men than women. However, it is also stated that the presence of this disease, which can only be detected visually, may not be noticed by women due to their long hair. Although the causes of CVG , a rare skin disease, are not yet known clearly, experts say that this disease is not dangerous or fatal.

What are the Symptoms of the Disease?

CVG is a disease that often does not show symptoms and takes time to recognize. Generally; does not cause symptoms such as pain or itching ; can only be detected visually. The folds, which can be camouflaged under long hair , become prominent when the hair is short, and is predominantly considered an aesthetic problem, not a physical one. However, in advanced CVG cases, that is, in cases where the grooves are deeper; odor, discharge, itching, inflammation and pain may occur.

Does Cutis Vertices Gyrata Cause Hair Loss?

In 2021, An article published in PubMed includes a case study of the clinical course and treatment options of CVG disease. The case studied is a 25-year-old male patient. She applies with the complaints of hair loss that lasts for about 1 year and mild itching in the areas with hair loss . The patient reports that hair loss begins gradually and worsens over time. In the physical examination of the patient’s scalp, folds forming 5 to 6 grooves are detected, and the patient is diagnosed with secondary CVG and the diseased tissue is sketched under general anesthesia.

How Is Cutis Vertices Gyrata Treated?

Cutis Vertices Gyrata is classified in two forms, primary and secondary. Cutis Vertices Gyrata, the treatment route is determined depending on the type of the disease. As I just mentioned, the disease is not considered a physical problem, but rather an aesthetic problem. Situations where there are deep folds and this is physically uncomfortable can be controlled with the right hair care. When there is an aesthetic demand, surgical treatment can be applied. Experts are of the opinion that close follow-up and clinical observation is the best option for patients with stable or mild symptoms.

Could Fat Treatment be a Treatment Option for Cutis Vertices Gyrata Patients?

We achieve very successful results from hair transplantation applications performed with the FAT method. Let’s remember what this method is and what benefits it provides, which I have explained in detail in my previous articles:

    • FAT is the method of injecting the fat taken from the body with the liposuction method into the scalp by enriching it with stem cells.
    • FAT, stem cell; It is an application that takes strength from its features such as renewability, improvement, reproduction and differentiation.
    • FAT aims to revitalize, activate and make the scalp more efficient.
    • FAT nourishes, strengthens and plumps the scalp.

What Can Be the Effect of FAT Method in Cutis Vertices Gyrata Disease?

Our priority in hair transplantation is to make the scalp healthy and suitable. Therefore, the first target is scalp health. In patients with non-advanced CVG, we provide filling in the spaces between the folds with stem cell-enriched autologous fats injected between the folds. FAT method; It offers effective results in the visual improvement of this rare skin disease, the cause of which is unknown and there is no definite cure.
