FUE Hair Transplant

Hair loss is a very important issue that affects the quality of life and self-confidence of men and women. Hair transplantation offers a solution that makes people more confident, happy with their appearance and feel better in their careers or personal lives. FUE hair transplantation is one of the most common hair transplantation treatments and has the highest success rate in terms of results.

We call the removal and transplantation of individual hairs during hair transplantation the FUE method, which stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. Follicular unit, or graft, refers to naturally growing hair, hair groups, follicle pairs or groups. The hair follicle and its base include the papilla as well as the connective tissue around the follicular unit. During FUE hair transplantation, follicular units are removed one by one from the donor area. These procedures are performed with a surgical instrument resembling tweezers with a diameter of 0.7-1.0 mm and a special tip. Micro-sized incisions are made in the balding area, channels are opened and grafts are transplanted. In FUE hair transplantation, it may leave very small, dot-like scars in the donor area that cannot be seen with the naked eye and are not noticeable even in short hair. These tiny scars disappear over time and become undetectable. In order to ensure maximum hair growth, it is very important that the follicular units remain intact during the harvesting and transplantation process and that their life is maintained. For this reason, hair transplantation is a very sensitive medical intervention that should be taken seriously.

Grafts

A graft is the smallest tissue unit that can be taken from the donor area with the help of the FUE punch tool. Since there are many hair follicles in the graft during hair transplantation, there may be more than one hair in a single graft. On average, 1 graft may contain 1, 2, 3 or 4 hair strands. This varies from person to person. Darker hair has more hair strands in the grafts, while this is the opposite in thin, blonde or red hair.

Donor Area

The donor area is the area where hair is harvested for hair transplantation. In the FUE technique, the hair in the donor area must be shaved because this is the only way to ensure correct graft harvesting. The area between the two ears at the back of the head is often chosen as the donor area. The hair here is hair that is not affected by the effect of DHT on the hair follicles, in short, hair that does not fall out. Follicular units resemble a small bundle of spikes gathered on the surface of the skin and spread deeper into the skin, with each follicle gently curving outwards as it enters the dermis. In the subcutaneous fat, the follicles have lost their grouping and appear as separate bulbs. This curved course of the follicles in the skin makes it difficult to remove the follicular unit with a straight and sharp instrument such as a punch. Therefore, assuming that the biggest asset of a person with balding is healthy hair strands, that is, the donor area, each follicular unit removed with the help of a punch should be approached with extreme caution and the procedure should be performed with zero casualties.

Hairline

We call the hairline the line of the hairy area surrounding the upper part of the forehead, which is different in shape in men and women. Designing a natural-looking hairline plays a key role in every hair transplant. A newly transplanted hairline is successful when it does not create an artificial effect, when it follows the natural anatomical points of the face, when it does not look like a geometric line, when it is a small wave-like line that resembles the original hairline. The patient's current age is taken into account when creating the hairline.

Three Main Stages of Hair Transplantation

Preparing the Head Area for Hair Transplantation

The back of the head, the area between the two ears, is the donor area and this area must be adequately and properly prepared before hair transplantation. During this preparation, the hair is shaved.

Collection of Grafts

Local anesthesia is given to the donor area while the patient is in the prone position or sedation anesthesia can be performed depending on the patient's preference.

With the help of a tiny FUE punch, the tiny hair follicles are moved a few millimeters deep and then extracted one by one. The grafts taken in this way are sorted, counted and then stored in a special liquid at constant temperature.

Hair Transplantation

Hair transplantation is performed in the supine position. This time, local anesthesia is given to the area to be transplanted. With the help of a special knife, tiny channels are made where the grafts will be placed one by one. The channels opened by taking into account the direction and angle of the hair during the hair transplantation process are extremely important for a natural-looking hair transplantation.

Step by Step Hair Transplant

  • My patients come to the clinic early in the morning.
  • Registration forms are opened and medical photos are taken.
  • I go over everything we agreed on before and have an interview with my patient.
  • The front hairline and other markings are made.
  • The donor area is shaved.
  • Sedation anesthesia or local anesthesia is given to the donor area.
  • The grafts are collected, sorted and sorted.
  • Channels are opened.
  • Hair is placed one by one into the opened channels.
  • And the hair transplantation process is over.

Postoperative Recommendations

I recommend resting for a few days to allow the micro wounds to heal and the swelling around the face to go away.

It is important to take a 3-week break from all kinds of sports, especially swimming, solarium and sauna.

After hair transplantation, verbal and written instructions are given about medication, care of the donor areas and care of the transplanted areas and it is extremely important to follow them.

Hair growth after FUE hair transplant surgery starts intensively in the 4-5-6th months. This period varies from person to person. The final result can only be seen after 12 months.

Please note that FUE hair transplantation is an extremely important procedure that requires professional infrastructure.
