Why is the Average Age Declining in Hair Loss?

    27/09/2022

When you notice that your hair is falling out, you wonder whether it is temporary or the beginning of the process leading to permanent hair loss. It is considered natural to have some reduction in hair volume with aging. The situation is slightly different in androgenetic alopecia, which is known as the most common cause of hair loss; Hair loss problems can occur at any age in androgenetic alopecia. Although statistics show that the probability of hair loss increases with age, the time of onset and the amount of shedding are genetically dependent. Therefore, it can be said that genetic inheritance is also responsible for the problem of hair loss, which begins to appear at an early age.

Hair Loss Problem Disrupts Young People’s Psychology

Hair loss has become a problem that has started to be seen even in adolescence today. Puberty; It is a process in which mental and physical development is not yet completed, visuality is more important than anything else, and even perfection is imperfect. It can be traumatic for young people to meet the hair loss associated with middle age even before they are of age. The earlier the problem of hair loss, which does not distinguish between genders, is noticed, the easier it is to take precautions and protect the hair.

Is Androgenetic Alopecia The Only Responsible For Early Hair Loss?

Androgenetic alopecia is a problem that can be seen at any age and is considered a common cause of hair loss. However, we cannot say that it is the only one responsible for all hair loss. Even if genetics plays a leading role, hair loss, which can be seen even under the age of 18, can also occur for the following reasons:

    • Stress

We can define stress as the physical and psychological reactions we give in the face of negativities. Today, this situation, which even adults cannot manage, may not be easy for young people to cope with. Uncontrollable stress is such a powerful threat that it can invite many diseases and cause hair loss, regardless of age.

    • Malnutrition

No food item has been proven to directly cause hair loss. However, studies show that nutritional disorders, deficiencies, mistakes and routine bad eating habits have negative effects on hair health. The fact that the daily nutrition program lacks the requirements that have a direct effect on hair health, such as vitamins, minerals and protein, can lead to hair loss at a young age.

    • Harmful Choices in Hair Care

As I mentioned above; Looking beautiful and handsome is naturally a psychological priority of the young age group. High temperature hair styling devices, chemical hair dyes, permanent hair styling applications damage the structure of the hair strands. It can lead to breakage, thinning, shedding and even permanent hair loss.

    • Environmental Factors

Studies show that air pollution causes hair loss. As a result of their experimental research, scientists have determined that air pollution reduces the level of protein responsible for hair growth. Air pollution poses a risk not only for the young age group, but also for all age groups.

Can Hair Transplantation Be Done for Early Hair Loss?

There is no legal age limit for hair transplantation, as with other operations, parental consent is required for those before the age of 18. It is not recommended for those under 18 anyway. Regardless of the age group of my patients who come to me with a hair transplant request, I first try to clarify the answers to the following questions:

    • Is hair transplantation really necessary?
    • To what extent does permanent hair loss affect the person?
    • Is the person who wants to have a hair transplant psychologically ready for this procedure?
    • Are they realistic about their expectations?
Psychological analysis is an essential part of my profession, if not a requirement. Although some people prefer this way to get a better visual, they may not feel ready for change. For younger patients, the answer to these questions is much more important. Regardless of your age, you should ask yourself the following question before considering a hair transplant: Am I ready?
